2 bays WIN, 1 cheap fan FAIL
I use this every day, literally, to do backups from my laptop and desktop. Throughput is what is advertised. The internal fan however is a travesty. After running for 2 minutes, the fan started making what sounds like a normal sound for a cheap fan. But completely annoying, my 90 decibel data center sounds better. Like any haxor, i cracked the case, unplugged the only obvious power lead (completely easy btw and recommended). Now, i have a great fan-less dual bay usb drive dock. The only sound i hear is drives spinning.

Works, noisy fan
This dock works well as a dual drive dock. No issues getting it set up, windows and linux/ubuntu automagically did everything and it spins up and is detected very quickly by the operating systems. It shows each drive individually and i haven't found any way to make them a jbod or raid, but haven't had a desire to do so, it may be possible, but its not obvious if it is. I periodically dock two 1.5tb drives to backup several business documents and the drives seat easily and securely without any noticeable structural instability. The base is sturdy and doesn't seem to tip over easily. My complaints about it are:1) it does not sense the power state of the pc its attached to - meaning, it will not spin down the drives nor "sleep" when the pc is turned off. You can manually power the dock on and off at the time you power the pc on and off. Other external drives (wd or seagate as examples which are essentially exactly the same device just a sealed enclosure rather than a removeable drive) do power down with the pc.2) the small internal fan is noisy - the particular unit i have has a bad fan bearing. This fan is very difficult to access for replacment within the case due to the construction of the dock, althout it is a standard micro pc fan and could easily be replaced if the board insde the dock was easier to remove. I wrote to siig and was told to return this product to the store. I haven't gotten the motivation to do so yet.3) the blue led status lights on the front are extremely bright. I've taken a paint marker and coated them to dull them down. They are so bright i couldn't stand to have the dock on the desktop near where i was working due to the glare.

USB Works Slick!
I bought this to make fast redundant backups of my data that were easy to remove and carry with me in case of fire. Hooks up to usb. Windows xp recognizes it. Have 2 different sized sata drives in there at once - 500 gb, & 2 tb. Only have it powered on when i want to do my backups, but it recognizes the drives separately from each other and i've never had any problems. It has chilly blue led lights indicating access and power and it also has it's own drive cooling fan which i'm sure must aid a little. It's not louder than the desktop computer i'm using. It does have it's own power plug, not powered by usb.

My old SIIG Dual SATA to USB 2.0 Docking Station finally gave out after 4 years. I know it works well.
My feeble siig dual sata to usb 2.0 docking station finally gave out after 4 years. I have a startech 4 port usb3.0 which works fairly well. I tried an earlier siig usb 3.0 dock, but it kept dropping drives. I returned that one and the startech which has had no problems. One thing to note is that if you are using these docks, it is necessary to make sure that your motherboard's sata controller is set to ahci, which is essentially advance power-management for sata. This would include "hot-swapping" and "ncq". I understand the temptation to used ide, for compatibility purposes when you are using ports 5 or 6 for your optical drives, but these docks require ahci to function correctly. I use 14 drives in my computer and 6 drives in my usb docks.I bought the usb 2.0 instead of the usb 3.0, because i had no issues playing blu ray movies off a wd 1002faex caviar black, and through my gigabit lan to my htpc. It helps to use the turbo mode feature of tuneup utilities on the host pc and the htpc.

works well
Works very well. Can race a two and a half or a three and a half sata hard drive, up to 2 tb

I liked it so much I bought two more for the office.
This is so much better than the loose sata-usb adapters, i went out and bought two more for a huge workstation cloning job at the office. It's solid, reliable, the only very minor downside is that the lights are too shining for the one i have at home... My desk is in my bedroom and the leds are so shining i had to place electrical tape over them. Why do people use these super shining blue-white leds instead of cheaper and more practical low power greens?

SIIG Cool Dual SATA to USB 2.0 Docking Station Review
I decided to try this brand of dual docking station because of the poor reliability i got from the thermatake blacx. The thermatake product seemed to had an unreliable sata connection. The problem could have been the connector or the driver. The siig product does not have a sata port. The siig product installed easily, however it continually dropped connection and reconnected. I determined that it does this only when running two hard drives.

I am ordering my second
My first is with room mate in another state. It works great...I had no distress hot swapping caseless drives to acquire the info on and off them.It worked for botha dead laptop drive and some drives from upgraded pc with limited space.Roomie found light too shining and idea it noisy, idea it was unhurried when using it to access wow on the play live.I'd rather the fan be there and protect the exposed drive and it was quieter than the laptop. It is not exciting looking but it fulfills its purpose nicely i took the star for the roomie's complaints though i found no complaint..I'm not as heavy a tech or raid gamer type.
