Syba usb floppy disk drive
First unit had a defective component. Replacement was arranged promptly. Second unit works perfect, couldn't be happier. Great for the price. Did not get 5 stars due to the lenght of the usb cable: only 17" it will not reach the usb port at the back of a desktop computer.U.R.Fernandes

Performed as expected
Doing a little housecleaning recently, i ran across several 3.5" floppy drives containing my writing from years ago. Of course, modern computers have no 3.5" floppy drive. I felt stymied. Then i searched outletpc and found this little drive at a reasonable price with relatively good reviews. The floppy drive performed exactly as i hoped it would. Simple; no setup needed; just plug and play. A good value!

Worked as advertised
This is kind of a no frill device. If you want access to old floppy disks but no longer have a floppy drive in your computer, this is a handy device. I transferred files off about a hundred old floppy disks and this drive worked fine for me.
Can't get it to do anything
Plug it in, xp recognizes the drive, but when i put a floppy (and i tried several) doesn't recognize them so i can't even format a floppy.Well, it *did* see one disk once, but then i tried a different disk and now it doesn't recognize any disk. The disks *are* readable on my old laptop.Worthless.I'll try contacting the company, but i'm not optimistic. If you have a solution, leave a comment and i'll get an email.

It works!
It works! Great if you have an old computer that only have a floppy drive that could drive data.

Excellent external/portable syba, 3.5 inch, 1.44 mb usb floppy disc drive
Like most people i bought this usb floppy disc drive in order to examine a bunch of my old 3.5 inch floppy discs to see what needed to be saved from the distant past. Well this new syba unit has performed flawlessly and was easy to install under windows xp home edition too. Occasionally some of my old floppies have apparently failed however as windows question if the disc needs to be formatted and can't be read, but others have been opened and read just fine. The only drawbacks of this unit that i can see are the lack of a carrying case (that the directions say should come with it, but it didn't), but i think that i would rarely if ever travel with this drive (it can as well be stored very easily in its small shipping box as well). As well, as previously noted by others the available cord that connects from the drive to the computer is somewhat short (only ~17" long), but for most modern latops this shouldn't be a problem and my desktop has a usb adaptor on the front so it is not an issue at all for me.

Not win7 ready
This product has no win 7 support. I ahave tried to contact the vendor but no response back. Will keep trying until next week and then i will return it.

Lots of floppys
Needed an external drive floppy. Newer computers did not have and still have info and work on the old floppys. Does exactly what it is suppose to.

Portable floppy disc drive
Great device. Just like my of dell 3.5 floppy by teac. I use it for making password reset discs, various boot disc (ie, nuke boot hard drive eraser, etc) . Easy install and works great on xp, vista and windows 7.

Floppy drive
Met all my requirements. Much cheaper to have an external floppy drive to retrieve older saved material.

Will your item, Syba external drive , item number C0371 read the Maxwell Superdisks LS 120mb so that I can transfer the pictures on it to my Windows computer? If not, do you sell anything that does?

By Customer Service on 2015-08-26

Mark, No normal floppy drive will read that disc. You will need a SuperDisk reader in order for it to read. Unfortunately we do not carry those.

is there an external USB reader to read Super 120 MB Disk and 1.44 MB?

By Customer Service on 2012-01-23

The technology used for Super Disks has long been discontinued. However, there are still other sources online you can get it from. As for floppy disks, we currently have an external drive for $14.98. It is item number C0371.

I already have a Mitsumi, but it is not compatible with Win7. Is the Syba Sy-USB-FDD compatible and have drivers for Win7 and NOT just Vista?

By Customer Service on 2012-02-16

The Syba Sy-USB-FDD does not include drivers for Windows 7 but Windows XP and above will automatically detect the drive so there is no need for the drivers.

Do you have a program to read Lotus 123 Release 4 files from Windows 95 into Windows 7 Home Premium Excel files?

By Customer Service on 2013-03-26

In order to read Lotus 1-2-3 files you'll need to download a file converter than can convert the WK4 files to excel files. I was able to find a free file converter here: Though you may wish to keep looking as I cannot attest to the quality of this program.
