Careful of the pci-e interface
It turns out that the adapter has a pci-e interface for x4 interface, not the x1 interface. I went back and checked, i missed this on ordering so my mistake. Unable to use the adapter, not worth the trouble to return it.

Great cheap buy to upgrade my sata 2 hdd speeds ...
Great cheap buy to upgrade my sata 2 hdd speeds to sata 3. It doubled my ssd's speed from 260mb/s to 560mb/s. If you are using old hard drive disks this won't really increase speed, but for ssd's on sata 2 it is amazing. One thing to note is using this card to speed up boot drive increases boot time by about 5-10seconds because it shows syba screen for raid control. I did not use raid controller, but even just for the speed increase to sata 3 it is awesome.

Works for me
Installed quickly, works great (at least for adding an extra ssd for boot drive).

Not for me.
If you want to run ssd's in raid 0, do not buy this card. I tried 4 ssd's in raid 0 and the outcome left much to be desired. I'm sure this is because you only get 1 or 2 channels. Not sure really as i never saw it in the description but my write speeds didn't break 400mb/s. If you want sata 3 and you are using hhd's, this is probably fine. If you are wanting 1gb/s transfers, this is not for you.

Another misrepresented pci-e x2 card (sold as x4)
Claims to be pci-e gen2 x4 card, but only the card edge is x4. The host is actually pci-e gen 2 x2, so this means it is not capable of keeping up with high performance hard drives, or even cheap ssds (max throughput 10gb/s including all overhead and not counting latencies). Maybe it's useful for optical drives or cheap hard discs?

... But wanted to add an ssd and get the best performance. I had an open pci-e 2
I did not have sata 3 on an older pc but wanted to add an ssd and get the best performance. I had an open pci-e 2.0 16x available so i plugged it in, rebooted and presto, i doubled the i/o of the ssd. Windows 7 ultimate 64 immediately booted without a hitch! Here are the results. Before and after installation of the syba 4 port sata iii card.

Excellent speed in pci express 2.0 motherboard; good speed in pci express 1.1 motherboard
I want to use the pex-40054 in a motherboard that has only sata ii ports (no sata iii ports) so i can get to sata iii speed without getting a new motherboard. Here is what i find, using a transcend ssd370 512 gb drive, which is rated to have max r/w speed of 560/460 mb/s..In the asus p8z77v-lx board, which has both sata ii and sata iii ports, here are the ssd's speed (without using the pex-40054 card):- in the sata iii port, the max r/w speed is 504/457 mb/s, using crystaldiskmark 3.0.1- in the sata ii port, the max r/w speed is 275/262 mb/si put the pex-40054 into a gigabyte p45-ud3p board, which has only sata ii ports, and supports pci express 2.0. I put the pex-40054 into a pci-e x16 slot and connected the ssd to one of the 4 ports.- now, the ssd's max r/w speed is 479/458 mb/s, quite close to sata iii speeds and much faster than sata ii speeds.Next, i put the pex-40054 into a gigabyte p35-ds4 board, which supports pci express 1.1. Again, i put the pex-40054 into a pci-e x16 slot and connected the ssd to one of the 4 ports.- now, the ssd's max r/w speed is 378/285 mb/s, which is still slightly faster than sata ii.Conclusion:the pex-40054 can achieve speeds faster than sata ii, and close to sata iii, in motherboards that support pci express 2.0.Even in motherboards that support only pci express 1.1, the pex-40054 can give you faster speed than sata ii.Note that i have not used the hyperduo capabilities of this card. I consider this a bonus but i have no plans to use it.Hope all of this is helpful.

Gots incredibly hot, doesn't work for some linux applications.
Gets hot enough to burn you or better yet melt through the plastic coating on any wire near the heat sink. Removed from service and returned.
By Elizabeth Cooper
Works beautifully
You can either make one or two hybrid drives, using a ssd and a disc, but not a ssd and multiple discs.
