Good for extending your wifi range
I have a linksys ea3500 dual band router (2.4 & 5 ghz) with wifi extenders in the house, because there are definite parts of my apartment where the wifi is not strong. I added the edimax and here are my observations:1) connecting and setting up the edimax as an access point is easy, it takes 5 minutes and is literally plug and play.2) when connected to the router, it make another wifi connection option, so you'll have your home network and another one called "edimax" in other words, i got another 5 ghz channel.3) because there were two options, i was able to use speedtest and compare both connection speeds. Near my router, there is no difference in speeds. However, further out (where i have a wifi extender), the edimax (without connecting to the wifi extender) offered much better throughput, in some of my tests, almost twice as much. Edimax claims the unit has a strong antennae, and my tests seem to support that.So in summary, in close range, i didn't notice a difference in speed, but for longer distances, and in hard to reach wifi spots, i definite did.

Good looks but unrealiable
I am a fan of edimax products, but this one falls short. It locks itself at least once a day: it losses connections until it is reset. As well, you can't turn its bright light off. The manual shows the option to turn it off under advanced settings, but the option is simply missing in the current firmware. While it has very good throughput and signal, it is an unreliable 5ghz access point. I am back to the 2.4ghz of my router.

Good for one connection...Not multiple.
Not worth the hassle. If you are looking to have a separate 5 ghz network for one device, then maybe it is worth the effort. However, as of the latest firmware (whatever was available as of 11/27/2014) the access point was not stable with multiple devices. If you really need a stable solution, look for an actual access point rather than an "add on" device.

Unstable, loses connections often, unable to connect to setup through browser. Just buy a new router and avoid the hassle.

Devices could not see this wap
I'm not sure if there is an inherent problem with the device or just horrible customer service. This device set up super easily. The problem was that many devices did not "see" this wap at all. My htc one android phone and my wife's iphone 6 saw and hooked up to this no problem. Couldn't have been simpler. But a brand new windows 10 laptop, an old windows xp laptop and an iphone 4 didn't see the device at all. I don't mean they couldn't hook up to it. It never would show up on a list of possible wireless networksbut what made it worse was that i spent a fair amount of time with microsoft, trying to see if the problem might be theirs (at the time, the windows 10 laptop was the only one not seeing the network....Hadn't tried the other two devices). But i called edimax. There customer service line had fairly limited hours. Worse it never played the wait music. It just kept question every 5 seconds if i really wanted to wait, or maybe i just wanted to go to their website and see if there was a solution to the problem. And every 4th one reversed the wording and made me hit a key to stay on hold. It was as if they had a system, and the system question how long between prompts, and they put 1 second instead of 2 or 5 minutes. And then when i finally got someone from edimax, they said that had been an issue with windows 8 devices (not really acknowledging that none of the devices having the issue had windows 8. They said they had no solution. And with that, i really had nothing more to talk to tech support about. I don't know if i believe that they have a device that doesn't work with such a large chunk of the computers out there, yet when i purchased none of the negative comments were about this issue.I think i believe there is a solution to the issues, or at least there were things we could have tried. But if tech support tells me there is nothing they can do, then i took that as a sign for me to move on to another product (got the asus 3-in1 wireless router...So far has worked great).

... Adapter costed twice the price and not half as good as this one
The other tp-link wifi adapter costed twice the price and not half as good as this one. It's a mediocre access point but a perfect bridge! Buy it if you have a desktop that needs wifi!

I like it!
Luckily, i haven't had any lockup issues that other reviewers had. This access point has been working non-stop (so far) without any issues. The only weakness is the range of the wireless. However, i'm giving this 5 stars for a few reasons:1) micro-usb power... You can plug this into your laptop or any usb power source like a battery pack.2) indicator lights (red, yellow, green)-- not only is it useful, but it looks very cool.3) "transparent" wifi-bridging. When you configure this ap as a wifi-bridge, your devices are connected directly to the wifi's network, as opposed to being nat-ed inside a different sub-net (which would be the case if you use a router in "client-bridge" mode). This is huge advantage since your devices are fully discoverable inside the lan.
