Very satisfied with the signal strength and performance
I bought this to use with a windows 7 media pc tucked in an entertainment cabinet. With the doors closed i had trouble with my usb stick wifi adapter so i bought this in order to be able to place an antenna outside the cabinet. All i can say is wow does it pick up the signal nicely! I used the optional usb extension cable to allow for placement on top of the cabinet and haven't had any issues at all. Almost always 4 or 5 bars and 80%+ link strength. I've been able to play games without any lag issues and am very satisfied with the purchase. Installation with the included cd was easy as well.I would recommend this adapter!

May have gotten an defective unit.
It had problems from the start and they just got worse. The wireless adapter would not even be recognized while using the usb extender. Then when i got it installed it would show a strong signal but then have a hard time connecting, drop randomly and be slow. Looking into it i noticed it had many receiving errors. My other wireless devices work fine on the network. I tried the wireless adapter on both windows 7 and linux mint, it had the same problem both times.

Solved the connection problem
I bought this as a gift for a friend who was having connection problems at his new apartment. He received it today and is overjoyed with its performance. To quote him "this adapter deserves 100% positive feedback".

Night and day difference compared to my onboard wi-fi
I got the n300 wireless dongle with 5dbi antenna and it has made a huge difference compared to my pc's onboard wifi. I have an excellent asus rt-ac68u router but it is located upstairs and my gaming setup is downstairs. I have 150mbps cable service but could only manage to get a maximum of 35mbps downloads on my pc and had from 60-100ms ping when playing league of legends with sometimes frequent lag spikes up to 800ms or more. We have two other laptops that we use downstairs with download speeds of 90-125mpbs so i figured it had to be my wireless adapter. With this one it's night and day difference. I get 80-100mbps download speeds and when playing league it's an almost constant 44ms ping with the rare lag spike of 60-80ms. I'm very happy.

Good for some product pairings, not for others. Do your research.
It worked well when i used it a few years ago. Recently i discovered it won't work with my blu-ray player and many other "wifi-ready devices". I suppose it's not rosewill's fault. The other manufacturers deliberately made their wifi features work only with proprietary accessories, which is evil.

This is the usb wireless adapter to get!
I've deployed dozens of these personally and professionally over the past 5-6 years. These are my go-to usb wireless adapters, even in the advent of ac wireless taking off and mainstream now. There is an ac version of this iirc, but the performance/reliability/cost is right here. You will want to have the drivers handy on a flash drive or similar for windows, but linux had 0 issues seeing and using this device. I believe windows 8 and 10 can use this out of the box too.Even with that, these have excellent range, are capable of maxing out the 300mbps speed on n channels. The extra extension and base are a plus if you need to move the adapter elsewhere. As a field engineer for an it firm, i always keep a couple of these on-hand. I've gone through dozens of netgear, d-link, cisco/linksys, asus, belkin, etc. Wireless adapters, and none of them performed nearly as well as this device did. They work so well, i convinced my boss we should replace our cisco/linksys stock with these. If you don't want a big antenna, there are other devices...But if you want the best signal you can get for cheap...You really can't look any further without either going far more expensive, or more antennas/bigger device and far more expensive.
