I have tried everyone's recommended calibrations in the comment section here
On one hand, the refresh rate on this is incredible, i overclocked it to 165hz, and holy heck, it is a huge difference compared to my old 2013 60hz monitor. The images and text on this monitor are as well very crisp and vibrant, i am beyond impressed. Now, onto why i am rating this two stars. I have had this since june 2017, and nearly a year later, and many, many hours of calibrating this on my pc, the monitor itself, and through nvidia control panel, i can not for the life of me get the gamma settings to be as they were on my outdated monitor. For example, i have tweaked all 3 config options in order to get the colors to be identical on both my new and old monitor, but the issue is, when the colors/brightness/contrast match, the gamma is wack on this dell. When i'm browsing the net, or playing brightly-lit games, you would never be able to tell, but i play a ton of horror games, and the light sources in the games always make odd, wobbly/purple shadows, and it's infuriating. I am playing a bunch of them with my sister, and while the games are much smoother on this dell, my sister question if we could just use my older monitor, since there is never any distracting purple.Biggest annoyance? I can change settings to make these weird shadows completely disappear and smooth out, but then the colors are extremely washed out. I have tried everyone's recommended calibrations in the comment section here, calibration suggestions in forums, and just messing around with everything on my own for hours on end. Total, i have spent 100+ hours over the last 10 months obsessing over this. I have wasted so much time, and i am so upset. This monitor only had a handful of bad reviews at the time of purchase, and was rated like 4.8/5 out of hundreds of reviews. I chose to think that the 5-star reviews claiming that the calibrations would fix everything were more reliable than the negative reviews, warning about the gamma. Mistakes were made.I'll attach two screenshots that can hopefully help describe my issue better, because i am not great at describing things. They were taken with my phone's camera, so ignore the color/brightness differences; these are the same brightness/coloring, but you can clearly notice the horrible, warped shadows in the dell monitor. I'm going to try contacting dell to see if they can offer me any suggestions, and i'll report back here.
