Features
Optimized for NAS with AgileArray. AgileArray is built for dual-plane balancing and RAID optimization in multi-bay environments with the most advanced power management possible.

High performance means no lag times or downtime for users during high traffic time for the NAS. Seagate leads the competition with the highest performance in NAS-class drives.

Rotational Vibration (RV) mitigation. First in its class of drives to include RV sensors to maintain high performance in multi-drive NAS enclosures.

Range of capacities up to 10TB. More capacity options mean more choices that will fit within the budget. Seagate provides a scalable solution for any NAS use-case scenario.

Get ahead with more cache. IronWolf provides high-cache options allowing your NAS to serve data faster.

Do more with multi-user technology. Enables user workload rate of 180TB/year. Multiple users can confidently upload and download data to the NAS server, knowing it can handle the workload, whether you're a creative professional or small business.

Designed for always on, always accessible 24x7 performance. Access your data on your NAS any time, remotely or on site.

1M hours MTBF represents an improved total cost of ownership (TCO) with reduced maintenance costs.

Get ironwolf not barracuda or regret it later!
Tl;dr barracuda's fail fast, ironwolf lives on.I've bought a lot of drives over the years. Seagate has been a budget brand for a while but the balance of quality to value is in a good place usually compared to the cost of other brands that are only slightly better. If i had the money i'd go hgst all the way alas i find myself ordering more budget drives. I've recently had several barracuda drives i bought on the cheap die on me in a way that had me convinced it wasn't the drives. Instead they throw i/o device errors left and right and disappear at random and have 100% active time in question manager but no activity, and long response times that slow the whole system down. So of course i try literally 16 different solutions to try and get things working smoothly again only to finally realize they're just dying. Upon inspection i notice all said drives are the exact same dm line (barracuda's) which more or less wanted me to join the seagate class action suit. Then i noticed all my good drives are the vn (ironwolf) and i realize there's a reason they're advertised as nas drives and have a slightly higher expense it's because of those added features for being in such an environment. The extra cost isn't much and considering how old my ironwolf drives are and the newer barracuda's already failed i'm confident in buying another 3 or 4 just to get a fresh array rolling. I just wish i understood back then that a few extra bucks goes a long way in reducing headache in the future.

Screw holes dont line up with mounting brackets, and these run very hot.
Received the drives and tried to install them. But the screw holes that are in them dont line up with my mounting brackets, i had to rig something up to get it to work. As well, these run very hot. A bit concerned on the life i'm going to get out of these.

The noise when idle is terrible.
When in use this drive is fine, but while idle, which is 99% of the time, the rythmic clunking noise is terrible.Seeing as it is just used as a backup of videos/photos i now keep it unplugged unless i have new files to backup.

Fast and lots of storage
We now own 5 of these drives for our drobo - easy to install and work great - fast and lots of storage
By Filoteu Nascimento
Great drives reliable and good performers.
Good performance and reliable. For a backup system reliability is everything. I needed even more storage, so i bought two 8tb drives from outletpc and they are performing flawlessly too.
