Create more space for hard drives with hot-swap capability - the BPU-230SATA series supports RAID 1 / 0 / 1+0 / 5 configurations for high performance or redundancy data applications. Aluminum construction provides light weight but strong stability, and an extra 70mm fan keeps hard drives working at maximum performance. High density multi-disk storage backplane allows multiple 3.5in. SAS/SATA hard drives to be mounted into two standard 5.25in. slots. Aluminum construction provides great heat dissipation required for high performance SAS/SATA drives, and is designed with excellent front to back vent airflow. Applications: Digital Audio Editing, Video Editing (SD or HD), Security System, SOHO SMEs With Limited HDD Tray, and Data Protection or Disk-to-Disk Backup.

      • Aluminum Frame, designed for heavy-duty purposes
      • Supports SAS I/II, SATA I/II/III Hard Drives
      • Data Transfer Rate up to 6Gbps

      Great product!
Nicely made.. Better looking in person than in the photo. Solid feel, easy to open and close. I'm happy. Added bonus, the brushed anodized blue aesthetic is close to matching my computer case; the blue led matches my power light too so the entire drive bay looks like it was a factory addition. I'll probably post a photo or two when i have a chance. Installed with no issue. Construction is metal. I haven't really noticed any excessive fan noise... I might change my mind after i replace the dated coolermaster exhaust fan which sounds like a train wreck at high speeds; the cpu fan that shipped with my intel i7 is pretty loud too... So, i'm not noticing any noise from the istar 70mm fan (set to low speed) relative to those two noise generators. I will reevaluate noise levels once i replace the 500# gorilla(s) in the room. I've only swapped a few drives in and out so far, so haven't had a chance to really monitor temperature fluctuations yet.

Too noisy to use in my office environment.

Great cage and good looking too
Really good, well built, sturdy design. The disks fit really well and it has a lock, which is a must. The only minor issue is that i ordered two from the same seller on the same order and it seems like they are diferrent revisions. The inner metal tongue which push the drive when you close the trays is different on the second unit and as well the tray release button doesn't appear to stay well aligned like the first one. But that is a minor cosmetic issue. Overall it's a great cage and i really recommend it.

Great hot swap 3.5" bay, see review on how to use 6 2.5" ssds
Works exactly as described. However, you can use this to house 6, count em, 6, 2.5 inch drives. You'll have to do some simple modding, though. Take the back and front panels off, then remove the innards. Buy chenbros 2.5"drive hotswap bay ( b008azzpkc ) that will take 2 2.5" drives into a 3.5" bay (this is out of stock at outletpc as i write this, but i found them at another vendor lion, leopard, panther direct or something like that, just use a search engine to search for the part number). Once you have the inner plastic box out, you need to drill holes in the side of the inner box of this to hold those chenbro bays (you as well have to turn the box upside down to drill the holes, or you will have your screws going into thin air; pre fit it and you'll see), and you will have six 2.5" bays available. Be careful to leave enough room to close the front panel doors. You'll have to leave the back off to have access to the drive connections. You won't need the fan, i've had this setup in a silverstone sg01-f case now for a few months, and have checked the drive temp often, never exceeding 40 degrees c. Looks great in a black brushed aluminum case. This drive housing comes with either plain brushed aluminum doors, red, blue, and black. In a tower case that can hold 8 5 1/2" drives, you can now house 24 2.5" drives. With the common availability of 500 gb ssd's, the end of platter drives is now upon us. Oh, and once you eliminate all the platter drives? You won't believe the speed at which your computer now works.
