Description

The stock cooler may be just enough to keep your processor running at a decent temperature, but most enthusiasts prefer even colder temperatures and more overclocking. The Thermaltake Frio Silent Cooling Fan and Heatsink is up to the task, performing noticably better than any stock cooler. You can use the included low noise adapter to reduce the already quiet fan to a lower RPM. Use it with any of the lastest Intel or AMD processors with the multiple mounting brackets. In addition, the design keeps the unit away from high-profile RAM. Frio Silent 12 Cooling CPU. The Frio Silent 12 from Thermaltake provides an ultra quiet solution with ideal cooling performance and clearance for today's CPU/RAM configurations. With a non-interference cooling design, gain optimal clearance for high performance RAM to allow easy installation. Reduce heat dissipation effectively with three ?8mm solid copper heat-pipes to ensure fast and efficient heat transfer from the CPU.

Beware! Absolutely terrible. Shorted out three motherboards. Do not buy!!
I purchased this heatsink and all other parts for a new pc from fry's electronics. This heatsink caused me nothing but grief. I went through three brand new motherboards because of this heatsink. Fortunately fry's worked with me and exchanged each board.Basically this heatsink has a very poor design whereby it includes a circular plate which goes over the motherboard. See the included photo. This plate rested too closely to several capacitors on the motherboards, and this seemed to have shorted out all three motherboards. The motherboards i tried were the asus z97-deluxe and the asus maximus vii hero. Fry's employees were the ones who discovered this, and multiple employees agreed this was in fact the problem. This whole ordeal really pisses me off and made me lose a lot of sleep. The design of this heatsink mounting system is terrible. Whoever designed this should be fired without severance pay. If i could give this -5 stars, i absolutely would. Makes me never want to buy from thermaltake again!Thermaltake, you are super lucky this didn't as well short out my geforce titan z...

Four stars
It is amazing!

Looks like a fantastic unit
Looks like a fantastic unit. I purchased it because my desktop system (windows xp) was overheating a shutting down.As it turned out, all i had to do was clean the original cpu heat sink and it works fine.I building another system to install windows 7, then upgrade to 10. I will use this new fan at that time.

Cools very well doesn't take too much space
Mounted this on a msi h97 pc mate for a budget gaming build. The fan didn't get in the way of the ram it left a tiny gap between each other. Install was very easy can't say much om the thermal paste it came with since i used artic silver but i did use the low noise cable and it worked wonders. White the stock cooler my i3 4170 averaged 60 c while idle but i've managed to drop it to 48 c while idle and 58 c while doing intensive question like gaming. Would recommend for anyone with a mid tower case or smaller and space is an issue

Work very good
I have been useing this for almost a year now in some gaming rigs it keeps my cpu temp down around 95degress f. Playing online games and lan games no more hot cpus.Note i don't over clock.

Great small form factor cooler.
I actually really like this cooler. Fit perfectly in my thermaltake core v1 mini itx build. I can see how over tightening the base could possibly cause shorting on the motherboard, so be cautious with that. It works great, and has allowed me to overclock my 4790k to 4.6ghz stable on air with temps below 80 in aida64. Very quiet as well. Would definitely buy another.

Great cooler
This unit is very large but really quiet even without the low noise cable. The mounting process is a little tricky and you need to pay attention to things around your socket because there is the potential to short things out. The mounting brackets are all metal and the one for the backside of the mobo has foam on it to avoid shorting things out. However, the potential is still there if you have long leads poking out or excess solder built up.

Terrible design flaw that could potentially kill your computer
Even despite having read another outletpc review on the dangers of this cpu cooler shorting out a motherboard, i still proceeded to order this as it was cheap and seemed effective enough.Unfortunately, i was not immune to the effects.Pros:? not a bad looking cooler.? cools decently enough? very quietcons:? mounting system has high potential of shorting out components? base plate is fairly rough? killed my computernotes:shortly after installing this cooler, i noticed random shutdowns on my computer. The symptoms included sudden shutdown, a "whining" from my system as a whole as it powered off, power leds staying on, but no response from the computer until i switched the power completely off and waited. I started trying to troubleshoot the issue, and whenever the problems lessened as i fiddled with the cooler (read: loosen the mounts, reducing cooler efficiency, mounting stability), it suddenly dawned on me that this cpu cooler and its mounting system was shorting out the motherboard.I eventually took some electrical tape and wrapped the mounting plates completely, but that messy solution only worked temporarily. Probably due to the multiple shorts and sudden shutdowns, my motherboard eventually died and i was forced to pay shipping for an rma or purchase another motherboard. I ended up choosing one of the above, but i as well took the liberty of purchasing another cpu cooler with a mounting system that wouldn't kill the replacement.

Does what it's supposed to do
Does what it's supposed to, keep the cpu cool and run silent.

Just like many of the other reviewers here
Just like many of the other reviewers here, i purchased this cpu cooler because it was cheap and was from a brand i trusted. Unfortunately, i suffered the same problem as many of them and it resulted in a broken computer. The mounting bracket is made of metal, and on my motherboard and many others i have seen, it sits only a millimeter or two above the capacitors near the cpu socket. The smell of burnt electronics still haunts me. Long story short, this $35 cpu cooler cost me $650 in replacement parts for what it damaged which included my processor, motherboard, and power supply.Buy at your own risk. Thermaltake denied my warranty claim,
