Great card... Till now
I was a big ol dummy, and i bought a motherboard without sata iii support. I just popped the card in, and i have upgraded to an ssd which is connected through this card. You have to make sure that a card supports hard drive use.Update: it glitched out, and is no longer working.

Beware about removing or moving this card!
This card works out of the box but be extremely careful and be aware of its dangers:one it is installed, the moment you remove it and reboot windows (i'm using windows 7 64-bit), your system will crash on start up complaining about changes in hardware configuration. Putting the card back in will not resolve the boot-up failure. If you move the card to a different slot after it has been installed and recognized by windows will as well result in a boot-up failure. No amount of start-up repair will fix the issue. Not even going back to last known good configuration will fix the issue. I had to restore to a backup image make prior to installing the card before i was able to boot my machine back to windows.Another bug is when you hot unplug a drive connected to this card, it takes a while for the computer to recognize that the drive has been unplugged, hence the drive letter(s) will still show up under explorer for a minute or two. At times you will need to restart your pc for the drive letters to be unmounted.

Fixed my pc problem
Had a dead sata controller chip on my pc motherboard preventing the drives from being recognized. Rather than tossing the computer, or purchasing and installing a new motherboard, i plugged this ncard into the open pci-e slot, rerouted the dvd and hd cables to the sata ports that face the inside of the pc, booted the computer and up it came, problem solved. There isn't an easier fix for a failed sata controller!

Great simple controller
Used it for adding another drive to my hp n40l and it comes with a low profile bracket. It's 6gb and worked out of the box with ubuntu.

Be sure to use the driver disk.
I plugged this in to my dell i660s so i could add another hard drive for recorded video. Windows 7 recognized the card immediately and was working fine, i played a few videos and then accessed a few videos from a streaming box, all was good. On a whim, i put the included disc in the drive, went to device manager and question it to update the driver. It chose a new marvell driver and again, all was good. I played the same videos and then accessed the same videos from a streaming box, this is where the new driver excelled, the video was clearly loading faster as evidenced by the play bar. Hope it holds up, but absolutely worth the $10 i paid. It included regular bracket, low profile bracket (i needed) and it even included an sata cable!!!

Marvell chipset boots win7 ssd
It runs my boot ssd just fine and win7 install had native support. **note** this card is an iocrest not a syba but from what i gather there is no difference between the cards. This iocrest uses the marvell 9120 chipset.

The way to go
There are units that are slightly cheaper, but this one works on windows 8 and windows 7 like a charm . . . Can even boot from it. Just load the driver first as a precaution (not sure if the driver is present in the windows library otherwise).

Not what i was looking for and it caused me some issues
I built a total poor man's nas with zfs on linux and wanted something that worked with my sans digital 4 bay jbod's. My original configuration had a single sii 3132 controller with 2 esata ports connected to 2 of the fore mentioned jbod's. My goal for the syba card was to add a second controller to split the io load between them. The issue i had with this controller card was that it had to reset the links quite a bit before it figured out how it needed to talk to the disks, and when it did it seemed to add a significant amount of system time to the cpu utilization on the system. I replaced this controller with an equally budget grde sii 3132 based chip and the cpu utilization was instantly split in half.I'm sure this thing works in the right configuration and use case, but it's not one of the most versatile or robust pieces of hardware even for the price.

Not a user-friendly installation on win7 x64, but eventual success
Physical installation was easy, but getting it to function on win 7 was not straight forward.Upon first boot, windows installed bogus drivers and two host controllers with four ports in device manager.Had to uninstall both bogus adapters/drivers and then do a rescan for hardware changes in device manager. One host controller showed up after rescan and i installed updated drivers from marvell located in amd folder of 91xx driver folder on enclosed mini-cd.You'll need to use disk management in win 7 to hotswap

Died within a year
Time to take this one to the electronics boneyard in the sky -- found out it was preventing my machine from even booting since it wasn't responding to the bios boot drive query commands. Was dead within a year of purchase. Not recommended!
