Good adapter but will need to work around drivers for it
I bought this adapter because i upgraded my 128gb msata ssd to a 256gb msata ssd. I needed to clone my old msata drive, so i bought the apricorn usb 3.0 upgrade kit (basically a usb to sata adapter cable and the cloning software). I've used the usb 2.0 apricorn adapter kit previously to clone an ssd drive to both a ssd drive and a traditional hard drive and am very happy with the process of using the kit. So i placed the new 256gb msata drive into the syba adapter and then connected the syba adapter into the apricorn sata connectors. I then connected the apricorn usb connector into the usb 3.0 plug. In my past experience, i used the cd that came with the apricorn kit to boot to as it was bootable and the usb 3.0 version was the same but when i booted to the apricorn cd and ran the cloning software, i was getting messages that the apricorn usb adapter could not be found. I unconnected everything and re-connected everything but was getting the same results. I want to boot to the apricorn cd and run the cloning software directly from the cd instead of running the cloning software in windows 7 to try to avoid any issues as i was cloning the main system hard drive.I had no choice but to boot to windows 7, which was from my msata drive that i was replacing and then running the apricorn cloning software on the cd. The cloning software found the new msata drive that was still connected to the syba adapter, which was connected to the apricorn sata to usb adapter because as soon as windows 7 booted up, it found the apricorn and syba adapters and installed the right drivers. I was able to successfully clone my old 128gb msata (which the cloning software was running from) to my new 256gb msata - i have to give kudos to apricorn because their cloning software used a 'hot copy' method and i verified the clone was done with no errors and the entire msata was clone to the new drive). The reason i was not able to clone from the cd and not windows 7 was because when i booted from the apricorn cd, the drivers for the syba adapter was not loaded and thus the syba adapter along with the msata installed in it was not found as well. In the end, i was able to accomplish what i need to do but the not by my first choice, which i considered the safest way to clone my msata drive. Due my specific requirements, i am still giving the syba adapter 5 stars because windows 7 found the drivers and installed the drivers right and after booting into windows 7, i had no issues with the syba adapter. The syba adapter did what is was suppose to do, the apricorn upgrade kit as well performed as specified, it was just my specific situation that i need to go to a plan b. I thing if you are going to install this adapter into a desktop sata connector, you should have no issues.
