More than enough for gaming
If you are thinking about getting a gtx 1070 or below, this is more than enough. However if you plan on doing a lot of video encoding or run a lot of scientific simulations, get the ryzen 5 2600 as it has 12 threads instead of the 6 threads on i5-8500.

Great processor
I love this little processor. I bought it in a machine that i use for mostly web browsing and playing games. It is a champ. They have as well made these a lot easier to install than what i remember by getting rid of the pins. With the six cores, i felt it wasn’t worth the cost of going to an i7 and have not been disappointed.

This chip is absolutely amazing, super fast
Let me first say that i got mine on newegg on sale for 175! This chip is absolutely amazing, super fast, and runs cool without using a lot of energy like my old amd 8350 did. I had a huge improvement over games with the new processor (used same gpu 1060 6gb), far cry with the old chip only ran at 40 fps with maxed out settings and water cooled new intel chip ran it 90fps and upp, pubg had a huge improvement, gta5, rainbow six siege jumped to 200 fps on maxed out settings, i would highly suggest anyone get this cpu if they want to upgrade, make the jump to coffeelake its so worth it. I would as well suggest a decent water cooler, nothing too fancy, but its highly suggested.

I got lucky and needed this days after it was released.
Good bang for the buck. Only a few dollars more that a 8400. Half the price of the really bad boy stuff. For my use its all i need. I'm still running a 3rd generation i 5. When things give good service i tend to go back for more. I even bought some intel stock to go with it. Up about 25% already...

Works as advertised. Box cooler is ugly but works great. I do lots of video rendering/encoding and found this to be a good value, however it is my bottleneck at this time, using nvenc on my gtx 1070. If you've got another $150-ish dollars grab the i7.
