Drive storage box
I bought several of these bare drive storage cases. I have 7 or 8 spare hd's i use to archive data and i didn't have an adequate means of storing them. The cases aren't too expensive. The 3.5 drives fit well. My only issues is the lid has to be precisely closed or it gets out of alignment and won't close. The snap in the front is as well a tad difficult to use.But they work at a somewhat rational price, and the quality is fine.Alert: make sure you pay attention to where the case is coming from. The ones from hong kong take a long time to get here. I don't like paying shipping so i look for free shipping since the shipping can cost more than the case. 2.5 cases hold 2 drives. 3.5 cases hold one.

It's o.K.
Notes on product.1) annoying to open for the first time. You have to 'condition' the closing tab/snap for the first time (don't over-do it! Then it won't want to close as solidly/quickly).2) cheaply made. Cracked off a couple chips of the 'sealing tabs' when closing for the first time.3) transparent: you can see the drive through the case (but may still want to label the case for quick id-ing, since all but one face is slightly 'frosted' you'd have to orient right every time you put it in to make use of that, easy, but for me not fun/necessary).4) foam block on top lid (seen as the dark rectangle in the product's picture) for securing drive.5) drive fits snugly.6) will likely provide minimal impact protection if dropped on any face/corner other than the top (where foam block is).7) ~1/2 the price of the wiebetech/cru dataport drivebox (which i'm sure is as well a lot nicer... But i don't actually know.)8) slid-in/out design is nice and convenient.Points of agreement with jjohnstone's review:a] closing tab can be tedious (*it can as well be slightly different on each case) [the entire case is a single piece of molded plastic (including snap and hinge) {plus a little foam brick glued in}]b] i ordered three of these (one each of green, orange/red, and blue): the -blue- one had blank packaging (the others say "i/o crest" on the top section of the sleeve it comes in) and as well seemed to be manufactured to a lower standard than the other two (labeled i/o crest), and i have had much more difficulty 'aligning' the tabs to close and snapping it shut on the blue case than the others, though they still require attention in shutting.

Snug fit and good protection
I was worried that this product might have the same build quality as a rubber maid container and it wont offer much protection. But my worries went away when i received the product. It is made from thick plastic similar to what you would find on camping equipment. It can take some punishment. The hard drive fits snugly inside. There is no room for movement keeping vibrations and shock to a minimum. The only design change i want to see is the folded plastic hinge on the top cover. They should have used a design similar to cabinets. Repeated use will probably cause the hinge to tear apart. The latch is hard to open without using a small flat head screw driver.

It is what it is
Holds the hard drive in place. No issue with the latch (i've only opened and closed it once). Seems to work as designed, wouldn't imagine it would be used on a daily basis. Mostly just to protect the hard drive while it's sitting in a drawer or being transported offsite.

They work for what they are needed for.
... And this is holding my drives that i keep on standby for a "hdd toaster" free shipping was important to me at the price of these chunks of plastic. I ordered three. One of them was a challenge to open at first. I'll admit i am worried about the long term durability of the hinge. The have a bit of a foul odor, but i'm not going to be sticking my nose in them that often :)wish they were a little cheaper. If it was not for free shipping i would have looked for a different solution. I may purchase more at a later date. Three was all i needed for the time being.

Latches break easily
All in all, the boxes are ok, but the latches are easy to snap right off--as i proved the first time i opened one.

Disappointed
Ordered 2 of these. On one the latch won't close. Tried to put a drive into one and it fit way too snugly. Didn't even put it in all the way and it was an effort to get the drive out.

Decent case, snug fit
The cases work well, however the hinge on the cap seems very flimsy and i'm paranoid it'll break if i open and close the case too much. As well the cases are almost a little too snug, but generally it's a good fit.

Does the job, nothing flash
I use this with the newer technology voyager q quad-interface drive dock for 2.5" & 3.5" sata drives for backup purposes with my imac, although less expensive drives are available, this provides the fastest transfer with my imac. It's a great way to re-use spare hard drives or the less expensive internal drives (compared to external drives). These cases keep the drives not in use safe. The drive fits snugly enough, and the case sturdy enough i'm comfortable handling the drives a little roughly (throwing them into a drawer or fireproof safe, for example).I use a variety of colors for each backup drive or type of backup (for example, io crest 3.5-inch ide/sata hdd storage box sy-acc35009 (orange) for a bare metal, bootable backup, green for time machine, io crest 3.5-inch ide/sata hdd storage box sy-acc35013 (gray) for music). In a pinch, i can use a newertech usb 3.0 universal drive adapter to quickly connect the drive to another computer without messing with external cases and additional cables or power adapters.I recommend placing the drives in the case with the connector side down to provide the most protection.

Warning -- 3.5" hdds do not fit!
Bare 3.5" regular hard drives (not the slim type) simply does not want to go into this box. The fitting is extremely tight. I tried a seagate 320gb sata drive and a 100gb deskstar ata/ide drive. Neither would fit. It goes in half way and stops. I could force the drive in but would have to force it out.It will require some extensive trimming to fit. At this price, it is worth sending it back.I as well bought an io crest 3.5-inch ide/sata hdd storage box sy-acc35011 (blue) and 3.5" hard drives fit perfectly inside albeit a bit loose.I would not recommend this storage box. For $1 more, the sy-acc35011 model works.
