Problems finding drivers, not windows 7 friendly
I purchased this to add to my newer (less than 1 year old) dell desktop, so that i could fully enjoy the usb 3.0 standard with my new seagate expansion 2 tb usb 3.0 desktop external hard drive stbv2000100.Upon receipt of the product i noted that the item i received appeared to be from a different maker than syba, however the product looked 'ok' the packaging looked cheap and the part was not in the usual anti-static bagging. I installed it into my pc using an available pci port, and powered it with an available sata connector. When i powered on the machine, it recognized having the part, but did not automatically find drivers for it.I used the included cd for drivers, and surprisingly, no drivers for windows 7 were found. Like another reviewer, i too went to the syba site to attempt to find drivers for it. I didn't locate them. I read the paperwork that came with it; which is minimal, and found that windows 7 wasn't even listed as being supported for this product. Odd, since 3.0 usb is the new standard.I thought that perhaps outletpc had sent me the wrong part and i returned it for an exchange. Despite the outletpc product description saying syba as the maker, yet another part *identical to the first one i received by another maker, arrived as the replacement. I returned it and just ordered this one: western digital superspeed usb 3.0 pci express pci-e card instead. It has fewer ports, but with that many excellent reviews, i'm looking forward to installing and using it.I plan on purchasing a usb 3.0 hub in the future for more 3.0 ports. Right now i like this one: uspeed usb 3.0 7 port hub with usb 3.0 cable and power adapter backward compatible with usb 2.0.I cannot recommend this part as it's not as described, appears cheaply made and seems to only have drivers for windows xp and vista on the cd which ships with it.
