Not a bad product but you get what you pay for
Main reason i bought this was because its cheap. I'm a+ certified so i know how to install it. I have complaints about this product. The driver disc that came with it has a collection of drivers from other products made my same manufacture and its hard to know which driver is for the usb card. There really isn't any manufacture listed i still don't know who its made by so i couldn't find any support. I had to go into device manager and look for a driver based on the hardware id. So finding drivers for it was frustrating however i managed to find renesas electronics usb 3.0 drivers work with it. On the brighter side once you get it installed and drivers working properly it does work and transfer speeds are as advertised. Even though it was a hassle i'm still happy for what i paid for it. (after writing this review i realized it says on outletpc the card is made by syba. This was nowhere on the package and the drivers disc still is difficult to locate the proper driver. I looked at the syba website and found support for drivers downloads but its not very good i still think this product would be easier if it had a better driver support.)

Problems finding drivers, not windows 7 friendly
I purchased this to add to my newer (less than 1 year old) dell desktop, so that i could fully enjoy the usb 3.0 standard with my new seagate expansion 2 tb usb 3.0 desktop external hard drive stbv2000100.Upon receipt of the product i noted that the item i received appeared to be from a different maker than syba, however the product looked 'ok' the packaging looked cheap and the part was not in the usual anti-static bagging. I installed it into my pc using an available pci port, and powered it with an available sata connector. When i powered on the machine, it recognized having the part, but did not automatically find drivers for it.I used the included cd for drivers, and surprisingly, no drivers for windows 7 were found. Like another reviewer, i too went to the syba site to attempt to find drivers for it. I didn't locate them. I read the paperwork that came with it; which is minimal, and found that windows 7 wasn't even listed as being supported for this product. Odd, since 3.0 usb is the new standard.I thought that perhaps outletpc had sent me the wrong part and i returned it for an exchange. Despite the outletpc product description saying syba as the maker, yet another part *identical to the first one i received by another maker, arrived as the replacement. I returned it and just ordered this one: western digital superspeed usb 3.0 pci express pci-e card instead. It has fewer ports, but with that many excellent reviews, i'm looking forward to installing and using it.I plan on purchasing a usb 3.0 hub in the future for more 3.0 ports. Right now i like this one: uspeed usb 3.0 7 port hub with usb 3.0 cable and power adapter backward compatible with usb 2.0.I cannot recommend this part as it's not as described, appears cheaply made and seems to only have drivers for windows xp and vista on the cd which ships with it.

How to make it work - renesas upd720202 usb 3.0 controller
Here's how you get this card to work.1) download latest renesas usb 3.0 drivers and install2) then install card3) connect external harddrive to usb ** 2.0 ** port first4) my computer -> right click on drive -> properties -> hardware -> select drive -> properties -> general -> change settings -> policies -> "better performance" -> ok5) start -> programs -> renesas electronics -> host controller utility -> make sure "disable usb 3.0 power management functions" is unchecked.6) safely eject drive, then reconnect to usb 3.0 port. This should allow the computer to connect at super speed (i get about 100mbps)

A few words of caution
First of all, if you google "syba sy-pex20124" you will find the drivers for windows 7.Second, this card may be provided by a substitute vendor, and not necessarily syba. Hardware is identical from what i can tell. Finally, and most importantly: since this card has rear connectors, you may be tempted to hang a usb cable off it, without an actual usb device plugged into the far end of the cable. In other words, you may decide to leave the cable plugged in behind the machine, and just have the far end hanging somewhere out front, for easy insertion into your usb device. Do not do it. The un-terminated usb cable will act as an antenna and freeze up the card. The result will be a failure to boot, or a freezing of the video card, due to lockups on the pci-e bus. Or instead, your machine may no longer recognize the card and won't enable the drivers at boot time. So, if you have any weird system behaviors, including system lockups, video lockups or temporary freezing, or weird bios messages at boot time, be sure not to have any unused cables hanging off the rear usb connectors of this card.

PCI express card for USB3.0
I think it worked as it is discribed. The computer is now able to use usb3.0 and clearly it is quite a bit faster then usb2.0 though this is only when win xp is running which is not the case for a main board that comes with usb3.0. I have no way of telling what the max transfer rate is on this computer.

DOES Support Windows Server 2012 R2
Works out of the box with server 2012 if you have windows update enabled. This is important:*nec upd720202other versions don't work on server 2012. Had to reach out to chip manufacture to verify this.
