May not be backward compatible with pci-e 1.0
Be aware that this *requires* a pci-e 2.0 slot -- most devices are backward compatible and will work fine with pci-e 1.0, but my intel i7 system wouldn't even recognize that a pci-e card was plugged in... No firmware load screen at post, nothing. Maybe i got a bad card, but with the number of times they explicitly say "pci express 2.0 slot" in the half-sheet of included documentation, i wouldn't be surprised if this isn't backward compatible.Shame, since i haven't found any better pci express sata 3 controllers with four msata ports on board.

Four stars
Addonics has a msata x4 card"quad msata pci-e ssd"

Fantastic with msata ssds in a 2008 mac pro
I'm thrilled with this card. I needed to add storage to a 2008 mac pro, and wanted to use ssds. I loaded this up with 4 1tb samsung 840 evo msata drives, configured the jumpers to use the msata connectors rather than the sata connectors at the end of the card, and installed it into one of the two pci-e 2.0 slots in the machine (the other is occupied by the graphics card). The 4 drives are raided together using apple's software raid.I'm getting about 700mb/s in both read and write. To a single drive (before the raid), i was getting under 500mb/s. There is a definite improvement due to the raid, but i don't know if it's limited by the card, the bus, or the fact that it is a software raid. For comparison, i'm only getting about 250mb/s to and from a samsung 850 evo 2.5" ssd connected directly to the sata ii bus in the machine, making this card a much better way to attach even single drives.I have not tried booting from this card. There were no drivers required for any of this.

Great product, solid
Great product, solid, stable. Using with win2012r2u1. I wish it were half-length (this is a full length card, and doesn't fit some of my proliants).

Works great in mac, and bootable!
This is a great option if you want ssd's and are running out of space - and if you want sata iii speeds. Screenshot attached of two ssd's in raid 0.I am running this in an xserve, and as well tested this in a mac pro. There are a lot of problems with the xserve's storage - that they only have three hard drive caddies, are sata ii, and don't support more than 2tb drives. This card solves all of those problems. I can confirm that it is bootable on mac os x yosemite. Which is awesome, since i wasn't sure if that was possible when i bought this.I am running two 256gb crucial m550's in raid 0, and the screenshot i added is the result. I am using apple's software raid - not the built-in raid on the card. However, just these two ssd's will max out the pci-e 2.0 x2 bus speed (or possibly the controller's speed). So even if you were to have four drives in raid 0, a little over 700mb/s is the most you can do. So having any more than two ssd's in raid 0 on this card would be pointless and not yield any faster speeds.I will as well be adding a 128gb ssd in a few days, so that i can make a fusion drive with two 1tb hard drives in raid 0 along with the 128gb ssd.Overall, it's a great card for the value. I wasn't sure if it was bootable on mac when i bought it, since it isn't mentioned anywhere if is is or not - but i'm glad that it is. Great speeds, and maxes out the pci-e 2.0 x2 bus.

Great, if it wasn't for false advertising...So much for 4 drive raid 0 speeds, caps at theoretical 800mb/s
Ok, let's get something straight here. This is a 2-lane (i.E. 2x) pci-e 2.0 card. Does is have the form factor of a 4x/4-lane card, yes. Does it have any of the benefits of a 4-lane card, no, only that it has an extra inch or so of support. Because i hate false advertising, this card gets a 1, to offset all the other positives that don't account for the fact it doesn't list its specs right. As well set pci-e 2.0 speeds straight. 2-lane pci-e 2.0 speeds are capped at 4 gbit/s (500 mb/s) per lane. Since this has 2-lanes that actually communicate (not 4), the max speed before 20% 8b/10b line code cost is 8 gbit/s (1000 mb/s).Let's review. This card does not support communication bandwidth up to 10gbps. It supports 1000 mb/s - 20% 8b/10b, or 800mb/s. This card is not 4x other than in physical form.Other than that bit, it boots to os x (i have tested 10.10.2), it hits just shy of 700mb/s with the 2 msata ssd's i have in raid 0. It costs only $50, and provides for future expansion. Great, but don't false advertise. The people buying these products are oftentimes techies, and we don't like made up facts and conjured selling points. Especially as soon as i get the box, and the front of the box contradicts itself (2x pci-e 2.0 doesn't equal 10gbps) and your own specs on outletpc (did you mention 2x anywhere in the specs?).Included photos of benchmarks.-631.4 write / 680.3 read is 2x toshiba thnsns128gmcp - toshiba 128gb msata nand in raid 0 (os x raid)-168.7 write / 359.1 read is 1x samsung mzmpc064hbdr-000l1 รข?‚??€œ lenovo 64gb msata nand

Does the trick.
This is x4 form factor, but only uses two lanes, for 4gbit/s*2 ~= 8gbits/s throughput, or 500mb/s*2 = 1 gb/s.So, sata-iii supports 6 gbit/s, reading a striped raid will max out at 8 gbits/s instead of the expected 12 gbits/s.Simultaneous reads from 4 attached sata-iii devices, likewise, will max out at 8gbits/s instead of come 24gbits/s.Aside from that; config was fairly straightforward, and it was recognized by bios as a boot-device without any problems. I get acceptable performance from it.

Problematic under linux, dissapointing performance when linux can find it.
I am using this controller under linux, sometimes this device will appear but more often it does not, and so you can't see the installed msata devices at all (this is the main reason for 1 star instead of 2).I have 4 msata ssds configured in raid 0 using btrfs, the performance of the raid 0 array is almost identical to the performance of a single drive.Although the idea of a low cost msata controller solution might seem appealing, i recommend you save up (probably 10x the cost of this card) for a "real" solution, otherwise your getting no benefit for the cost of the 4 msata drives you need to populate this card.

Great product.
Bought this to take 4 msata 256gb ssd cards and turn it into a 1tb raid 0 array for my desktop. It worked perfectly. Just make sure to read the instructions as this is a dual function card with many features.

Does not work for me
Way to complicated and instructions are not detailed enough. I installed this card on a motherboard with all 4 msata ssd drives installed. The cdrom drive on the computer stopped working and the ssd cards got hot fast. I had to remove the card and have not been able to use it for fear of ruining my motherboard.
