Monoprice 8078 SATA Hard Drive USB 3.0 Docking Station w/ Card Reader & Hub

I purchased this item and it came with a packing slip with a phone number. I called them because the usb cable they supplied is a: not pictured and b: some strange cable i've never seen in my life before (and i am a techie)customer service rep said that if i didn't order direct through them, they couldn't speak to me on the phone and all had to be thru outletpc. I question simply to identify the cable and they refused. Bottom line, i waited a week to get something that is not even usable and quite frankly poorly made from what i can see (because i cannot use!)

This is a sata dock and multi card reader, so if you're looking for pata drives this isn't for you. It worked out of the box with a large sd card, a 2.5" ssd sata drive and a 3.5" hdd. Both drives seated with no difficulty. I had a few very old compact flash cards and tried those just to see what was on them. None of the cards (3) showed up. No real loss as i never expect to use a 16mb card again but i deducted one star.

I have the usb2.0/e-sata version of this, and it works fine. Right now using it semi-permanently holding the boot drive for an imac whose internal disk suddenly became unrecognizable. Genius bar wanted $250 to fix; i installed mac os x onto a new $60 1tb drive, restored a time machine backup, and now run plugged directly into this - a great time and money saving solution.I would give it 4 stars due to the plastic construction if it had cost more, but went up to 5 based on the value at this price. But the "list price" shown here is ridiculous. The selling price is basically the same as purchasing directly from monoprice including their shipping charge. The price is very fair, and i think it is a good product, but don't believe that you're saving 57% over buying it elsewhere!

The first one that arrived wouldn't read the sata drive and it was returned. Outletpc was fantastic in their service on this return. The best i have ever experienced. The second one arrive within 2 days. The product was tested and wouldn't read a sata disk with the usb 3 connection as before. The card reader and the two usb 2 ports worked with the cable connected to the usb 3 port on the computer but the docking station would not read the hard disk. I tried at least 4 different disks. When i plugged the cable in to a usb 2 port is was off and running at usb 2 speed. My customer was willing to live with the usb 2 connection but the drive will clearly not read a hhd with the usb 3 connection. The wording on the box and documentation is ambiguous as to weather it is a usb 2 or 3.

It works great. How ever i can't get it to read hdd's when plugged into usb 3.0. It works fine in usb 2.

This unit looks great and works great too. I've only given 4 stars because the drives are not hot-swappable.Pro's=====- great looks- solid base, doesn't slip around when changing drives or cards- fits 2.5" and 3.5" drives- can fit any drive with a sata interface (does not work for ide drives)- has 2 usb ports on the front- transfers at full usb 3.0 speeds (a few of my sata iii drives transfer around 140 mb/s)- card reader works with x-memory, sd/mmc, cf, and ms cardscon's=====- is not hot-swappable which is why i've given it 4 stars - you have to power off the unit, switch your drive, and repower the drive on- drives plugged into this don't seem to show up in crystaldisk - not sure why and that could be a problem with crystaldisk and not the unit. I have no idea, but it's not that big of an issue.

Love it

This is a handy interface that can read all those different cards and a sata drive too. I like being able to turn it off and save power. Worked the first time i plugged it in on a windows 7 professional machine.
