Description

Intel Core i3-8100 Coffee Lake Quad-Core 3.6 GHz LGA 1151 (300 Series) 65W BX80684I38100 Desktop Processor Intel UHD Graphics 630. The 8th generation Intel Core processors feature great performance-per-dollar on their processors, which now see increased core counts. The i3-8100 is a four core processor as opposed to previous i3 lineups which were dual-core. This translates into increased compatibility with the latest games and of course, better performance.

For the enthusiast, the unlocked 8th Gen Intel® Core™ processors ('K' series only, whose model# ends with a 'K' suffix lettering) provide you the opportunity to tweak the platform performance to its fullest potential and enjoy great gaming and VR experiences. An impressive portfolio of standard and unlocked devices for a broad range of usages and performance levels provides you more control and more granularity for overclocking2 your platform.

The BX80684I38100 processor from Intel works on the LGA1151 platform. This 64-bit CPU has 4 cores operating at 3.6GHz. Advanced features of the 14 nm chip include 4 x 32KB Instruction L1 Cache, 4 x 256KB L2 cache, and 1 x 6MB L3 cache with Intel UHD Graphics 630 integrated/built-in graphics. This processor comes with a heatsink/cooler bundled with it, however, if you want to upgrade your cooling make sure what you use supports LGA1151 and a TDP (Thermal Design Power) of 65 Watts.

Great budget processor will beat all the cheap ones below it
So this has 4 cores and 4 threads with a healthy clock speed and i don't mind having overclocking as for that you need a better motherboard and a better cooler and just spend extra money but with this cpu you can pair a decent graphics card like an rx 470 or a gtx 1050ti or even a gtx 1060and get awesome 1080p gaming and some video editing as well so if you are on a budget and want to game and edit videos for youtube then go for it!

Locked, and can only be paired with motherboards intended for unlocked cpu's
This cpu is locked down (in comparison to amd cpu's which are not), and cannot be overclocked. But the only motherboards available at this time are high-end (expensive) units meant for overclocking.I suggest staying away from this cpu until cheaper motherboards are released, unless you like pissing your money away on features you cannot use.

Watch benchmarks before you buy
Low availability is no excuse to buy. Don't listen to amd fanboys with their 1 star review. These perform great and people should watch benchmarks before they buy. Must upgrade motherboard to the new z370, or wait for cheaper 8th gen motherboards to arrive. Watch benchmarks before you buy. Good for games.

Great little cpu.
I'm not a gamer so i don't need anything fancy, great cpu for basic computing, internet. The built in gpu is good enough to stream hd tv in full screen, my old pc would glitch trying to do that.

This is a good upgrade from any sandybridge and haswell i3-i5
This is for the i3-8100.Let me go ahead and save you the question trouble, yes, this is a good upgrade from any sandybridge and haswell i3-i5, i came from the i5-2500k, which when the rig was first built was a beast, run any cpu intensive title with easy and load in-game assets like a boss. However, that was 6-5 years ago not now, it would hold up fine but was noticing (in games like battlefield 1 and gta 5) it just wasn't doing what it used to do, so i was gonna upgrade to a kabylake i5-6500 and booooyy let me tell you i'm glad i didn't, i ran into money trouble and couldnt afford to upgrade at the moment so i waited, now even after hearing about the new coffeelake cpu's i was still skeptical and was headed down kabylake lane until i saw the specs and price, wow, an i3 that preforms like an i5 for half the price? I gotta check this out and im glad i did.We put my pc against his i5-6500 build with basically the same specs and it was keeping up with an i5?!?! Same frame rate, better temps and same well, everything! And his rig cost $300 more than mine (he needs a better cooler because his processor draws a lot of heat and power) i was just amazed at the performance that i can get with this thing! Anyway here are the specs down below and i hope that little story and comparison helped( here's the specs)cpu i3-8100(stock fan lol)gpu gtx 1050ti 4gbmobo gigabyte z370 hd3ram corsair vengencelpx ddr4 2400mhzpsu rosewill 650 80+arccase rosewill tyrfingsshd seagate firecuda 2tb sshd

Meltdown and spectre!
Patches for meltdown and spectre bugs slowing systems down. Even intel's ceo doesn't seem to trust the company, as he sold his stock ahead of fiasco... Think intel had better split down on price. Amd seems a safer bet for now!
